Concealed Carry Permit Refresher Course

This course is designed for individuals of all shooting experience levels needing to fulfill the requirements of renewing their CHP. Regardless of whether you are a first-time gun buyer, an avid shooter, or a collectible enthusiast, you will leave this class knowing more than you did before, and reinstall the insight necessary to solidify the attitude, confidence, and awareness required of a responsible gun owner.

 

*This course fulfills all requirements of HB24-1174 and allows current concealed permit holders to apply for a renewed permit with their application. The certificate is valid for one year. Students can renew 120 days before permit expiration but you can take the course before 120 days. THIS COURSE IS NOT FOR NEW PERMIT APPLICANTS (Please take the 8 hour course). 



This course covers the following basic fundamentals:

  • Proper safety techniques of firearm and ammunition handling 
  • Instruction of safe firearm storage and child safety
  • Safe shooting technique and handling of a firearm 
  • Safe range etiquette 
  • Holster options, material preferences, holster mistakes and recommendations. 
  • Laws applicable to five years of most recent statutes in relation to the purchase, ownership, transportation, use and possession of a firearm. 
  • Laws required relating to HB24-1174, Section 2, paragraph d on page 4. 
  • Laws related to use of force, force in the home and justification for self-defense 
  • Best practices to ensure CHP holders safely interact with law enforcement personnel responding to an emergency. 
  • Best techniques for avoiding a criminal attack, how to manage a violent confrontation, including conflict resolution and judgmental use of lethal force 
  • Finally, range time is now required to renew your CHP. This portion includes safe shooting assessment, effective skill application and a shooting exam of 80% or better to test students concealed carry confidence with use of a firearm.

Students are required to own their own firearm for the refresher course. Holsters are recommended by not required.

Rentals are available for $20 additional.

 

Classroom time averages 2 hours, range time averages 1 hour depending on how well students grasp the information, questions, text grading analysis, and student attendance.

 

What to Bring:

  • Firearm (in a case) and at least two magazines
  • At least 50 rounds of ammo (can be purchased at the facility)
  • Eye protection and ear protection is available for purchase at the store, or feel free to bring your own.
  • Snacks, water, sunscreen, hat, range appropiate clothing 

 

*A test is now required in the classroom and on the range achieving a score of 80% and 70% or better, respectively. 

 

This class takes place at Dragonman's Shooting Range. A description of what to bring, where to go, and location directions are included in your confirmation receipt. All students must be 21 years or older or given parental permission and written consent.

 

Refunds: 80% refunds are given after sign-up with 24 hours or more notice. No refunds are issued with less than 24 hours before class or after 60 days of no attendance.

Weather Policy: The range portion takes place outdoors. If under 40°F and/or snowing/too windy, range portion will be rescheduled.
